Business Development Manager

Morreale Communications has a senior level opportunity for an experienced and resourceful Business Development Manager with an exceptional record of sales and relationship management. This is an exciting new position at the firm and will work as part of the leadership team to develop a highly structured and strategic approach to acquiring new business.  The Business Development Manager will lead prospecting efforts, pitch development and networking strategies for the leadership team.  This position will work closely with the leadership team and project managers to propose and implement best practices in cross selling and relationship building. The ideal candidate is an outstanding oral and written communicator with poise and presence and unmatched people skills to connect and build lasting relationships. The candidate is also highly organized with superior presentation skills and can work closely and seamlessly with leadership and colleagues to advance the firm’s client relationship goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Prospecting

    • Must have an established network in one or more of these areas: Transportation, Healthcare, Utilities or other highly regulated industries.

    • Must be self-motivated and bring an entrepreneurial approach to building a new business development strategy for the firm

    • Work closely with the leadership team to identify prospects, goals and tactics to accomplish new business goals

    • Develop a pipeline for staff to contribute new business ideas and leads

    • Acquire and maintain an expert level understanding of the firm’s history, capabilities, team roster, client roster, client leads, as well as client industries and business objectives

    • Build short, medium and long term new business goals with client targets and strategies to leverage existing and secondary relationships as well as tactical approaches to gain access to high priority prospects

    • Explore and pursue prior client relationships that align with Morreale Communication’s new business goals and do not violate any current non-solicitation agreements

    • Actively pursue networking opportunities, engage in direct outreach and maintain a presence in the field at client and industry events and happenings (in-person activity subject to pandemic and health official guidelines)

    • Maintain a daily pulse on client industry news, policy developments, competition, funding opportunities and special projects

    Pitch Development & Presentation

    • Work closely with the Marketing team to develop/enhance pitch process including building templates, timelines, checklists and best practices in pitch content and design to streamline and expedite the process.

    • Work with leadership and project managers to identify content and design needs to quickly pull together pitch decks, proposals, fact sheets and other collateral as needed/required by the client

    • Lead or contribute toward official client pitches, discovery sessions and onboarding

    • Additional projects and tasks as assigned

    Team Support & Relationship Management

    • Work closely with project managers and client reps throughout the project timeline with regular check-ins to maintain project knowledge and pulse of client relationship

    • Provide training and regular suggestions on how to maintain client satisfaction to increase retention and cross selling capacity

    • Lead and manage ‘added value’ or ‘client appreciation’ activities and events including sports outings, lunches, happy hours, etc.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration is preferred, not required

  • 5 - 8 years’ experience in sales or new business development required

  • Experience in new business development for a public relations or marketing firm preferred but not required

  • Experience in working with clients in transportation, infrastructure, government and/or healthcare a plus

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong and professional communication; verbal, written and penmanship

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Self-starter with a strong sense of initiative and passion to seek out and develop new business relationships

  • Complete team player and able to excel at relationship management both externally and internally

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

  • Highly detailed, organized, and resourceful

Initially, this position will be remote, and then depending on timing could either report out of the Chicago office located in Edison Park or downtown Chicago. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel as needed to client offices.  

Job Type: Full-Time 

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 (based on experience and certifications) with additional bonus structure based on new business.
